5 Sentence Paragraph Power Writing
The 3rd grade students wrote these 5 sentence paragraphs following the power writing model. Prior to filling out the power writing umbrellas, the students made a list of all the things they are thankful for. Then, they highlighted the three most important things on their lists. Next, they filled in the power writing umbrellas as part of their pre-writing. Power 1 was the topic of their paragraph (what they are thankful for). Power 2’s and Power 3’s are major and minor details. When their umbrellas were finished, they drafted their paragraphs. After their first draft, they met with their teacher to revise and edit. Following the revising/edit stage, the students wrote their paragraph with the changes that were made. Finally, they wrote their final copy for display in the hallway. The students’ work was graded using the rubric that is posted.
